Note: It’s important to emphasize that the employee has not done anything wrong. Dealing with a language barrier is a difficult challenge in multiple ways. Another language implies another culture and different ways of doing things. You need to be patient and allow the employee to adjust. You can make communication easier by tailoring your speech to avoid idioms such as “Crazy like a fox” that don’t translate well. Speak to employee like an adult to avoid appearing patronizing, but simple language will make the employee feel more like he or she has opportunity to contribute.
